He and his family came from Ireland in about 1712 and settled in New Castle, DE. Received at Newark MM, DE on 4 6m 1716 on certificate from Moate Mtg., Westmeath Co., Ireland. In 1717 he erected a fine stone house, barn, & outbuildings on his plantation in DE. He is said by tradition to have been murdered by a servant in his own barn for the gold he always carried on his person.
